These bags were used for the packaging if several commodities like cement, fertilizers and food grains. Some of these products have been so far reserved exclusively for jute bags essentially to protect the jute growing community. The study involved the entire life cycle right from the production of raw materials, conversion to bags and transportation of the packed commodity product to the disposal and recovery of the basic raw materials.

The less amount of material used by the woven bags obviously would mean it will save significant amount of energy during manufacture of its raw materials and their conversion into bags. The study revealed that the jute bags required as much as 50% more energy and that paper required as much as 300% more energy when compared to these Woven Bags.
